(Steinbeck's first book, published in 1929 just two weeks before Black Friday in an edition of 2476 copies. Reportedly, the Covici Friede issue is made up from the 939 sets of unbound sheets remaindered by McBride to the Harlem Book Company. Goldstone and Payne A1b.) Excellent condition of Steinbeck’s first novel. Blue covers with gilt stamping to spine. No markings, soiling or wear, aging on page edges. Original very scarce dust jacket, good condition, some chipping (including chip out of word "Cup") and darkening to spine, bright, crisp and colorful, price clipped. Fantastic collectors item, with very scarce Dj - a rare find of Steinbeck's first book, especially in this condition. 269 pages.
