Robert Southey (1774-1843), "English romantic poet, one of the so-called Lake poets.He wrote a great deal of verse, including epic and didactic poems, but is now remembered chiefly.as the author of the much-anthologized ballad 'The Battle of Blenheim' (1798), and for his prose criticism and short biographies of Nelson (1813), Wesley [1820], and Cowper (1833)" (Benet's Reader's Encyclopedia). "Southey also wrote the first printed version of "The Three Bears," which appeared [in 1837] in his book The Doctor [which was published anonymously in seven volumes, 1834-1847]. His edition of the Morte Darthur (1817) played a part in the revival of the King Arthur stories as children's reading-matter" (The Oxford Companion to Children's Literature). 828 pages.
