Methuen, 1925-1928. Four volumes. 8vo. Each volume in it's original cloth (blue, green, maroon and pink respectively) with gilt vignettes and lettering, top edge gilt. The books are illustrated throughout with line drawings by E.H. Shepard. When We Were Very Young has plain endpapers, whilst the other volumes have endpapers illustrated in black and white by Shepard. An attractive and very scarce set. With these first four books, Milne and Shepard had created characters which would go on to become amongst the most loved literary creations of all time.
